Hiawatha Bicycling Club is a non-profit bicycle club located in your coverage area. We thought you’d be interested in the attached press release about how we are social distance riding while exercising to keep the food shelves stocked.
Club members were challenged to get out and ride solo or with their household, then report their mileage. For every mile they reported, a half a dollar would be added towards the goal of $2000. Members commented they were motivated to ride more than usual because of the opportunity to help those whose lives were turned upside down from the impact of social distancing.
Our program was an instant success. In less than 3 weeks, over 50 members rode more than 4000 miles to meet the $2000 goal! But there is more. With such an enthusiastic response to the challenge, Club members have continued to ride and now make personal donations to the food shelf based on their mileage on behalf of the Hiawatha Bicycling Club.
We are proud of what our Club accomplished, but our goal is to make others aware of what we did so they might undertake similar efforts to help those whose food needs are great. Hopefully, you can help make this happen. If you would like to find out more about this program, please contact our President, Lisa Soldat via email at [email protected].
