The Ullr Ski, Bike and Social Club is going strong! Election of officers for the 2019-2020 year has taken place,
Our 69th annual Spring Awards Banquet and dance was held in May. Ullr of the year is Mary Jane Hochstein. A ski racing medal was given to Torch Dorn by Brian Johnson and Ole Awards were presented. Congratulations to all! Then we danced to the KJ Quartet. Ullrs know how to have fun!
We started hiking in the fall and resumed this spring, going to Terrace Oaks to see the savannah restoration taking place there. It was a nice day and our group enjoyed the hike and lunch afterward. A hike at the Como Zoo was also very enjoyable. We hiked around outside and then toured the Conservatory. A couple of other spring hikes had to be canceled due to rain.
Bikers spent several days in Nisswa in June and are going to Lanesboro at the end of August. Ullrs also bike every Thursday (weather permitting) and other days of the week, some with potlucks after the ride.
We have a jam-packed summer schedule: Singles hold monthly card/game nights and luncheons. Our summer picnics have started. We meet at Brookview Park in Golden Valley. Picnics start at 5 pm with food served about 6. Scheduled dates are July 10 & 24, August 7 &24 and September 4.
Upcoming social events include Sommerfest on July 19, Glensheen at the History Theater July 28 and The Swedish Institute on July 30. August 28, we’ll see Mama Mia at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater.
Our Winter Planning Party is July 21 @ 4 PM. This is where we come together to plan local ski trips, plus snowshoe and hiking outings for the 2019/2020 season.
The western ski trip is scheduled for March 15-21, 2020, at Big Sky, Montana (see ad on MSC website).
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Elan Vital Ski Club for their generous donation to the Ullr Foundation. Alice Williamson presented a check to Jan Cady, President of the Foundation, at our May General Meeting. The Foundation has been raising funds for adaptive equipment for downhill skiers, water skiers, bikers and therapeutic horseback riding. Thank you so very much!
We’d love to have you join us. Check out our web site for a full schedule of events and times at www.ullr.org.
