Fun in the Sun for the Wipeouts
Despite a rainy start to summer, the Tuesday Wipeouts found plenty of opportunity to soak up the rays and have fun in the sun. June found 15 members swinging clubs at a little white ball at our annual golf outing. Whether anyone hit the ball and how far is uncertain, as the only reports afterward were about how much fun they had.
July was our annual canoe trip on the Namekogan. A new first for the trip… when our cavalcade of canoes and kayaks arrived at our first landing for lunch, two young men approached asking if there was a convenience store within walking distance. They were on a multi-day trip and had underestimated the amount of food they needed and they were hungry! Imagine their good fortune to stumble across an all women’s adventure group that included moms and grandmoms ready to come to their rescue with a feast of lunch leftovers. They were even grateful for the carrots!
In August, another canoe trip, this time on the St. Croix, brought out a beautiful day and 14 members to bask in it as they paddled down the river, watching birds and little baby turtles along the shoreline.
September, we rolled into fall on bicycles with a trip to Lanesboro, filling a lodge at the Cedar Valley Resort with lots of food, and good times. Thanks to recent rain, water levels on the Root River were good, and temps were warm, making it possible to canoe/kayak the river for the first time.
Upcoming events include a visit to the Arboretum to see the “Origami in the Garden” sculpture exhibit, our fall luncheon at the Dellwood Country Club, and then, skiing is just around the corner!
