We Traverski members have had an action-packed year having both fun and volunteering in the community. Traverski has its own Adopt-a Highway stretch that members get together and clean up, then go out for supper and see who found the most interesting items. Another popular volunteer event is Channel One Food Bank where you never know what you will be working with. It could be repackaging frozen hamburger patties (which come in various shapes and sizes) into bags of a certain weight, to packaging 2-pound bags of miniature candy bars.
We held our own Winter Olympics at Brian and Margaret’s in March where we participated in a variety of outdoor games. The Ski Walker (a walker attached to skis) was a new game this year in honor of Steve, who was unable to join us at Taos due to breaking his leg skiing a week before the trip.
Welcome Summer Weekend was held at Hidden Meadows RV Park and Campground in May. Keeping with Traverski tradition, we tie-dyed t-shirts, tank tops, some did dish towels, and, in the past, someone was very imaginative and tie-dyed personal items.
July 4th found many members gathered at Jenna’s house for grilling and fun playing Jenga before enjoying the fireworks. July also found us at Carole’s annual decks party, using her multiple decks, feasting on sweetcorn and many other goodies. There was also cake to celebrate those members having “decade” birthdays this year…40, 50, 60, and 70-year celebrations… the club knows no age limit!
Eagle Cliff Campground and Lodging near Lanesboro is where 12 of us gathered in August to have fun in the sun biking the trails, kayaking and tubing down the river. Paul prepared walleye fish bites for us, sharing his “catch”. Delicious! Some other activities have included “Down by the Riverside” free concerts, bowling, laser tag, waterski show, movie nights, Berne wood fired pizza with outdoor music, Skyline Raceway with mini golf and go-kart racing.
October 18th we will hold our annual membership party at the Eagles Club, 917 15th Ave SE, Rochester, welcoming everyone to come and check us out. Who knows, you may win a prize… even possibly a free year of membership!
It’s hard to think about winter activities at this point, but they’re not far away. We are geared up to attend the MSC Winter Carnival at Big Snow in January, then on to our big ski trip to Mt Bachelor in Oregon February 9th – 16th.
Our meetings have moved indoors to the Eagles Club, where we meet up on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month. If you are in Rochester and want to say “hi”, stop on by. You can check out our website, www.traverski.wildapricot.org. Looking forward to meeting new friends!
